Getting Started with CNC

CNC machines can seem very scary at first but at the end of the day they are very easy to use and are greatly beneficial for businesses that thrive off of manufacturing parts. One of the first things you need to do in order to use a CNC machine is simply create a computer drawing of the design you want to be created. You then will create the toolpath cutting files and then load them to the controller. Finally, machine your project once your materials are set up.

Key Takeaways:

  • CNC stands for computer numerical control and is far different from a woodworking machine.
  • When you first come up with your project idea you are going to need to convert it to a computer drawing.
  • When the CNC machine is running you step away and just let it do all of the work throughout the entire process.

“It all adds up to a different way of working, so understanding the basic workflow and terminology is a good place to start.”
