A U.S. Army veteran took on a project that began as a wall plaque but became a key chain pendant. He was inspired to take on the project because his son serves our country as a U.S. Marine. He tested the design on various pieces of wood, including 5mm plywood and other species of solid wood that were 1/4-inch pieces. He recommends cutting out of solid wood though because he experienced darker spots resulting from the glue in the layers. Another issue was bleed through in the lettering, but that can be fixed with a coat of shellac prior to the color coat. These pendants are very inexpensive to make if you have a v bit and cnc router. He highly recommends this project because our soldiers need as much support as they can get.
Key Takeaways:
- As a military veteran with a son in the Marines, I wanted to send a message about remembering deployed soldiers.
- I tested it on several types of wood and recommend solid wood rather than plywood.
- You need a CNC router and a V-bit, plus the downloaded dxf file.
“In some of the photos you may notice that some of the crossed rifles are turned a different direction and slightly larger, I adjusted it to get better detail in the rifles and to move the letters in the box to the left just slightly.”
