There is new CAD software available that will allow an ADDITIVE manufacturing process to do 3D printing and additive and subtractive processing on the same machine. Highly complex 5-axis processing will allow for Directed Energy Deposition (DED) processes and Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM). Both laser and nozzle machine heads can be controlled with our new software. The machine can be programmed for collision avoidance and for selective material deposition. It will boost the precision, reliability and precision of the machine.
Key Takeaways:
- OPEN MIND’s new hyperMILL software can be used with a wide variety of additive and subtractive manufacturing systems.
- The hyperMill software can be used for both Directed Energy Deposition processes — like those that employ laser-based powder machining heads — and for Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM).
- Features like additive and subtractive simulation will allow for better planning and execution of different projects and phases.
“Key additive applications include repair of damaged components, cladding of additional surface skins, or creation of new components from a substrate.”
